Welcome to Lugo Waves 🙂

Hey there, we are Kate and Ian and we can’t wait to take you on a journey of discovery to Mariña, the Lugo coast, located in the breathtaking north of Galicia, Spain. We believe that this little slice of paradise is a hidden gem and we’re excited to share it with you. There is very little English language information available about the north Galicia coast of a Mariña, therefore we plan to help you get to know this wonderful area 🙂

Our story began way back in 2005 when we embarked on an adventure like no other! Along with our then 5 dogs and a cat (including a 70kg Pyrannean mountain dog), we packed up a van, bid farewell to our home in the UK and made our way to Extremadura in the heart of Spain. Fast forward to 2022 and we’re now embarking on a brand new adventure in a completely different part of the country – the stunning a Mariña coast.

With its mild climate, fascinating cultural heritage, and friendly locals, we knew this was the perfect place for us to call home. After years of sweltering +45c days and long droughts, we’re ready for a change of pace and scenery, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision.

We can’t wait to show you all the wonderful things a Mariña has to offer and help you fall in love with this stunning part of the world, just like we have. So come along with us and let’s explore this hidden paradise together!

About Lugo Waves

Slow travel, adventures in nature

Our aim is to share with you our discoveries in the largely unknown part of Spain. This will include hilltop rambles, beach wanders and riverside jaunts. We embrace the simple pleasures, so we’re more likely to share the best hidden picnic locations rather than fancy restaurants!

‘Real’ photos

We will document our travels with real photos, not edited or filtered to give you unrealistic expectations. Our aim is to give you the true feel of a Mariña, not the Instagram-perfect version 🙂

Lastly, this website is not a vanity site about us! Thankfully you won’t be subjected to photos of us doing in probable yoga positions on the beach or photobombing otherwise breath-taking views – this website is about the natural wonder which is a Mariña and nothing else 🙂
